About

Mark de Boorder (1991) studied sociology at the University of Amsterdam, where he minored in philosophy and art history. During his studies, he became a contributing editor at Hard//hoofd, a Dutch magazine for beginning writers and artists, subsequently becoming its publisher in 2018. In 2020, he delved into photography because of his desire to express himself visually. End 2023 he left Hard//hoofd, in order to re-engage with writing and to further develop his photography practice. He currently works as the assistant-publisher at De Groene Amsterdammer.

As a photographer, Mark shows careful attention to the seemingly trivial sides of both urban life and nature, excavating peculiar slices of life. He is fascinated by how people make a sudden imprint on the world they live in, and by how they unconsciously reveal their inner lives through their posture and expressions. He simultaneously feels drawn to surroundings in which the hand of mankind is visible, but where humans are not: desolate landscapes where people intervened and left behind their eccentric marks. In 2024 he was selected as a Fresh Eyes International Talent by GUP Magazine.

On this site you find a selection of his photography and writing. All photos are shot on film.
